Appearance
When a message could not be handed to your recipient address, the attempt is recorded under Failed deliveries.
What it holds
The alias, the sending domain, the time, and the reason the far end gave. No message content and no attachments: this is a log of failures, not a copy of your mail.
How long
Seven days. Long enough for a problem to be recognised and looked at, short enough that this page is never a history of who writes to you.
That is also why an old example is not something we can investigate. If mail went missing a month ago, there is nothing left to look at, here or anywhere.
What to do with an entry
- Mailbox full or over quota: the problem is at your provider, not here.
- Rejected for policy or spam: your provider refused it. Forwarded mail is landing in spam applies.
- Unknown recipient: your own recipient address no longer exists. Add a new one and verify it.
When we stop trying
Repeated permanent failures to the same recipient will stop that recipient receiving, because continuing to push mail at an address that keeps refusing damages the sending reputation that every user here depends on. The recipient is marked and shown in your dashboard, so it is visible rather than silent, and it resumes once the address accepts mail again.
