A domain of your own is the version of this service with no shared reputation, no monthly alias limit, and nothing in an address that names the service carrying it.

One-click setup on Cloudflare or OVH

Enter your domain first, before anything else. If your nameservers point at Cloudflare or OVH, the dashboard detects it automatically and shows a connect button instead of a wall of records to copy:

• OVH: you're sent to OVH's own login and consent page to authorize access scoped to just that domain's DNS zone. Once you approve, the four records below are created for you. You can revoke this at any time from your OVH account, and disconnecting from the dashboard removes the stored authorization on our end too.
• Cloudflare: works the same way via Cloudflare's own Domain Connect mechanism, once Cloudflare has approved it for Skudo. If the button isn't showing yet, follow the manual steps below, they take the same records either way.

Everyone else, or anyone who would rather not connect an account, follows the four records below by hand.

The four records

The dashboard shows the exact values for your domain. What each one is for:

• MX, so mail for your domain arrives at our servers instead of somewhere else. Without it nothing reaches us at all.
• TXT for SPF, which tells other providers that our servers are allowed to send as your domain. Without it your forwarded mail is far more likely to land in spam.
• CNAME for DKIM, which lets us sign mail as your domain so the signature survives forwarding.
• TXT for verification, which proves the domain is yours before we accept mail for it.

After it verifies

Every address on the domain works. There is no monthly alias limit, and catch-all applies, so an address exists the first time somebody writes to it.

While the domain is new

For a short period a newly added domain is held to five new aliases a day. It is the same reputation protection that applies to our own domains, applied to a domain nobody has any history with yet, and it lifts by itself.

Subdomains

A subdomain of a domain you own works the same way and takes the same records. mail.example.com and example.com are separate entries here.
